What problems do wildlife cause?

Most of the calls we get are because homeowners hear animals scurrying around inside the attic or walls. Most of the damage inside a houes or attic is unseen. Rodents like squirrels, mice, and rats often chew on electrical wires. Wildlife such as raccoons, bats, birds, opossums, and rats spread several diseases that humans can and do catch, such as Histoplasmosis, Salmonella, Leptospirosis and more. Many critters leave droppings and urine in an attic or cause mold or odor problems. We also handle animals outside the house. It could be a critter that has dug a large hole next to your house, or a raccoon in your garbage cans, an opossum that is stealing pet food, or a skunk living under your deck, causing an odor problem. Some animals destroy your garden or landscaping. Or perhaps you are simply scared of snakes. Whatever the problem is, our wildlife experts can remove the source of the problem, and prevent it from happening again. We are not a Westchester extermination company, nor pest control. How To Get Rid Of Groundhogs

When it comes to animals that have become a very important part of North American culture, the groundhog is one of the most popular animals that even has its own celebration day in many areas. However, they are not always good animals to have around, and if they do move into your garden or start burrowing under your house then it can cause some big problems. This is why it is important for Westchester rodent extermination to deal with the problem quickly when you have a groundhog in the vicinity.

Signs To Look For

The groundhog is an animal that will often cause a lot of destruction in urban, suburban and even agricultural areas. One of the first signs that you will see that will suggest you may have a groundhog is that there are a number of different areas of your garden being dug up. If there is a lot of burrowing then parts of your garden may actually start to sink as one of their tunnels will fall in. It is also wise to look around the property to see if there are any signs of digging around the home itself. This can be particularly problematic and will need to be solved swiftly.

Trapping Groundhogs

There are a number of different traps that Westchester rodent extermination uses to catch groundhogs, and whether or not a live trap or a lethal trap is used will depend on the preference of the individual. Because groundhogs will usually eat a lot of plant life, Westchester groundhog removal uses fruit as bait for such a trap. However, if the trap is simply placed at the entrance to the burrow then most groundhogs will actually blunder straight into it as they leave their burrow. Although many people will try to fill in the burrow of the groundhog, they will usually dig a new one because of their excellent digging skills. They are also known to be quite aggressive when they are threatened, so it is smart to be careful when handling the trap if they have been caught in a live trap.

In terms of the lethal traps, many people will prefer to use these because of the carnage that a groundhog can cause, and their large population. Groundhogs are often hunted, and for those people who do own firearms and live in rural areas they may view this as a solution for their groundhog problem.

Groundhog-proofing Your Property

For properties that have regular problems with groundhogs, there are a number of steps that Westchester rodent extermination can take to make your gardens a much less hospitable place for groundhogs to live. The first and most important thing to do is to try and stop them from getting in to your garden in the first place. Making sure that there aren’t any obvious areas that they can get in, and also making sure that any fences are sturdy and go below ground level by a couple of feet will often be enough. It is also possible to reduce the amount of cover and bushes in the garden which will also reduce the appeal of your garden.

Summary

Groundhogs are often wonderful animals and can look very cute when they are seen in celebrations or in films such as Groundhog Day. The reality of having one in your garden can be very different, and if they are burrowing beneath your home they can actually have a devastating impact on your foundations. Repellents will work occasionally, but there are too many variables for it to be truly reliable, and the only real option is to trap the animals. Some will be happy to do this themselves, while others will want to hire a professional wildlife trapper to do this.
